The Linklater Method combines imagery, imagination, and technical information. Through practice, one can achieve an understanding of the psychophysiology of their own voice, as well as the rehabilitation and strengthening of the vocal apparatus, making it sensitive and responsive to the expression of vocal impulses. This flexibility is achieved not by controlling the external musculature (so-called voice "placement" or "training"), but by freeing the channels that lead from the impulse (feelings, imagination, things to be said—whether these are inarticulate sounds, words, or musical notes) to the vocal apparatus (both physical and psychic) that manifests them. This facilitates a conscious and fulfilling management of the vocal experience, for both the individual and the professional (in any field).

The core progression is structured into an architecture of sequential steps: the breath, the initial touch of sound, further vibrations throughout the body, the channel (jaw, tongue, soft palate), the resonators (chest, mouth, teeth, middle sinuses, nasal cavity, upper sinuses, skull), additional breathing capacity (intercostal), range, and articulation.

During one of her last visits to Rome, on the occasion of the presentation of the Master's Degree from La Sapienza University of Rome to the most recently authorized teachers in Italy, and noting the now widespread dissemination of the Method throughout the national territory and the increase in authorized teachers within the teacher training programs held in Germany, Scotland, and Italy, Kristin Linklater appointed Assmuth, Fabrizi, Gambardella, and Villa to take on the role of governing teachers—that is, reference teachers for the Italian Linklater community, the preparation of candidates for teaching apprenticeships, and the dissemination of strictly vetted content. CENTRO LINKLATER ITALIA is affiliated with THE KRISTIN LINKLATER VOICE CENTER (https://www.linklatervoice.com).
